Henna a new New Year's Tradition?

Yesterday, I hosted a "Best Foot Forward in 2010" party for about 8 ladies at my home. The party featured foot treatments and henna foot designs. While I'll delve further into the specifics of the party in a later post this week, I wanted to quickly share my thoughts on creating a new New Year's tradition.

While reflecting on the party today, I realized that a henna party is indeed the perfect way to usher in a New Year. Why You ask...

1.When done on an area of the body like your foot, a henna stain can last from 3-4 weeks, which is precisely the amount of time that some say it takes to establish a new habit. Therefore, focusing on ONE specific daily habit for the duration of your henna stain, puts you well on your way to truly making positive changes in the new year.

2.Women especially, are more likely to achieve their goals if they A. write them down B. share them with someone else C. receive encouragement/support. Writing down your new habit and sharing them with others in attendance at the henna party will motivate you to succeed, and allow others to hold you accountable.

3.Henna is pretty, and if you have it you'll want to admire it, check the color, etc...which is so much more attractive than tying a string around your finger. Use this to your advantage by associating the stain with your goal.

4. Taking the time out to pamper yourself is a GREAT way to start a New Year.

5. You can make it a regular occurrence. Any life coach will tell you that when you set a goal you should also set a reward for  yourself for achieving that goal. Make the commitment to get together with your "Henna Mastermind Group" regularly to check each others progress, set new goals, and reward yourselves for achieving the ones that were set previously.

Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest, and New Year too! What a wonderful tradition! I agree that Henna tattoos are beautiful and I love the fact that they last about the same amount of time that it takes to make a new habit. What a wonderful way to wear your committment and stay on track toward a new goal!

wow, that's a great idea! I've always loved the intricate henna art like that....this makes me want to do some onmy wrists/hands so I can see it often (I'm a desk jockey and a knitter, so my hands are always in front of me!)
